Install Safepay Checkout (Hosted) on Shopify

Redirect Shopify customers to a secure Safepay-hosted page to pay.

The Safepay Checkout app adds Safepay Checkout - pay with debit & credit cards as a payment option on your Shopify checkout. When a customer chooses it, they're redirected to a secure Safepay-hosted page to pay, then returned to your store. It's the quickest way to start accepting payments on Shopify.

The app is free to install. Safepay transaction fees apply. See pricing.

Before you start

You need:

  • A Shopify store, and permission to install apps on it.
  • A Safepay sandbox account for testing, and a production account for live payments.
  • The Public API Key and Private API Secret Key for both accounts. See Find your API keys.
  • Your store currency set to PKR. Safepay Checkout processes PKR only.

1

Install the app

  1. Open Safepay Checkout on the Shopify App Store.
  2. Click Install and select your store.
  3. Confirm the installation in your Shopify admin. The Get started with Safepay page opens.
Click Install on the Shopify App Store listing.

2

Add your API keys

First, copy your keys from the Safepay dashboard. Log in to the sandbox dashboard, click Developer in the top right, then open API. Use the copy icon next to each key. Then do the same in the production dashboard.

Developer → API in the Safepay dashboard. Your keys are shown in full in your own dashboard.

Next, paste them into the Get started with Safepay page that opens in Shopify after installation:

The Safepay Checkout configuration page in Shopify. Fill in all four fields, then click Submit.

Click Submit. You're taken to the app's Settings page.

Never share your Secret Key publicly, including in support chats or screenshots.

Test a payment

  1. On the Settings page, check Enable Test Mode. Payments now go through the Safepay sandbox, and no real money moves.
  2. Place an order on your store and choose Safepay at checkout.
  3. Complete the payment on the Safepay page using a test card.
  4. In your Shopify admin, open the order. Test orders show a yellow notice at the top.

Treat any order placed in test mode as a test order. Don't fulfill it.

4

Go live

Once your production account is approved, uncheck Enable Test Mode on the Settings page. Payments now go to your production account.

Match Shopify orders to Safepay payments

  1. In your Shopify admin, open the order.
  2. In the Timeline, expand the payment entry.
  3. The reference shown under Payment is the Order ID in your Safepay dashboard. Search for it there.

Test payments are in the sandbox dashboard, and live payments are in the production dashboard.

Manage the app

After installation, Safepay Checkout appears under More ways to pay in Settings → Payments.

Settings → Payments in the Shopify admin, with all three Safepay apps installed.
  • Change your API keys: go to Settings → Payments in your Shopify admin, find Safepay, and click Manage.
  • Turn Safepay off temporarily: on the same page, click Deactivate Safepay. Keep your keys saved so you can turn it back on later.
  • Remove it completely: click Uninstall Safepay.
